If you or your child are uncomfortable at all it will come through in the photos, so we can take some time to talk and let the kids see the camera so that they are not intimidated by it. The more relaxed and comfortable everyone is the better the pictures will be and the smoother the session will go. I also try not to take the traditional "posed" photos. Although there will be times I ask you to pose... I like to get the candid moments and photograph people being themselves!

A session can be held where ever you would like... a park, your home, or any place that holds special significance to you. If that means going downtown and walking around, or standing in the middle of the desert wearing a tutu and cowboy boots, the possibilities are endless and completely up to you! If you need some ideas feel free to ask and we can come up with the perfect location for you.

A session usually lasts about an hour, but can run longer. Sometimes when children are involved I know that we might need to work around their schedule, and I understand that, so we allow enough time to capture what we need and not be rushed.

Due to the fact that I shoot with natural light, the early morning and 2 hours before sunset are the typical times to plan the shoot. But they can be accommodated for anytime of the day especially if it will not be outdoors. This is merely a suggestion to achieve the best possible photographs.

I take as many pictures as possible within the time allowed and I am not limited to a certain amount of shots. Usually this is around 150 images or so.

Depending on the session you may also be allowed a change of clothing. Please come prepared.

What to Wear During a Photo Session:

Classic clothes are usually the best option, something like jeans and plain colored shirts. Something without too much pattern and no logos. When in a group you don't have to necessarily wear the same color... think monochromatic or complimentary colors.

For babies and children, cute things that are timeless, like overalls for boys and big poofy skirts and bloomers for girls are great ideas. Dress for the season or for the occasion. This is a great opportunity for them to play dress up and be whoever they want to be!

For newborns their birthday suit is always best. I will do what I can to make sure the baby is warm and as comfortable as possible. Try to keep socks and mittens that may leave an indentation off of the baby for at least an hour before the shoot. But we can always dress them in a special outfit. Remember when dressing an infant size is important... we don't want to have a baby who is drowning in their clothes. We want them center of attention and all emphasis on those cute baby parts. If Mom and Dad are going to be in the photos as well, try to wear something neutral like black, white, or grey with jeans or a solid color dress for Mom.

What to Bring to Your Session:

You can bring whatever props you'd like to include in your session with you or your child. A favorite toy or blanket will add to the sentiment of a photo. If you don't have anything that you would like to bring along, don't worry, I sometimes carry some of my own props that may be used in your photos.

With newborns be prepared for "accidents" and extra blanket, change of clothing, and diapers are a must! I will have my own blankets on hand for these shoots, just in case. All my stuff gets washed after every session.

For older children, snacks, and drinks can be helpful when they get fussy.

Due to the fact that I will work around your baby's schedule, we may need to feed a child so a bottle is a good idea to have on hand.

And don't forget your smiles!
